Background

The title traces its origins to The Railway Magazine, founded by Effingham Wilson in May 1835. The Railway Gazette name dates from July 1905, when it was created to cover railway commercial and financial affairs. It later became Railway Gazette International and was published for many years under Reed Business Information. On 1 April 2007 it passed to DVV Media Group, a Hamburg transport publisher. DVV's shareholders have included Handelsblatt (from 2005), and Rheinische Post Mediengruppe has been the sole shareholder since 2013. The group also publishes Metro Report International and the Railway Directory, and it runs events and business-intelligence services. Its editorial focus is technical and commercial, covering projects, procurement, rolling stock, signalling and policy. Its perspective is generally pro-rail and pro-investment, as is typical of an industry trade publication. I did not find any major editorial controversies in my searches.
