The network is run by ARG Outlier Media Pvt Ltd, in which founder and editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami holds about 82% of the equity, according to the company's own 2020 disclosure. A downstream digital entity that controls republicworld.com is 99% owned by that company. Co-founder Rajeev Chandrasekhar, now a BJP politician, gave up his stake in 2019.

Background

Republic TV launched in May 2017 as an English-language news channel, co-founded by Arnab Goswami, who had left Times Now, and Rajeev Chandrasekhar, then an independent member of India's upper house of parliament. Chandrasekhar gave up his stake in 2019, leaving the network controlled by Goswami as an editor-owner. It later added Hindi (Republic Bharat) and regional channels, including Republic Bangla (2021) and Republic Kannada (2023), and its website republicworld.com carries digital news. Its prime-time debates are loud and confrontational, and it is generally seen as sympathetic to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government and the BJP and hostile to opposition parties. In 2020, Mumbai police alleged that Republic TV and other channels manipulated television ratings (the 'TRP scam'). Republic denied wrongdoing and has attacked the investigation as politically motivated. The channel has also faced regulatory complaints and criticism over sensational or communally charged coverage, including its reporting on the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Its coverage of U.S. policy under Trump's second term, including the 2026 tariff announcements affecting India, is largely news-driven and India-focused. I could not find enough evidence to say its stance toward the administration is consistently supportive or critical.
