Background
Republic World launched on May 6, 2017, founded by Arnab Goswami after he resigned from Times Now citing editorial differences. Early financing came from BJP politician Rajeev Chandrasekhar, who held a significant stake through his Asianet News Media & Entertainment company; Goswami bought out that stake in May 2019, becoming the sole promoter with over 82% equity in ARG Outlier Media. The channel grew rapidly to become one of India's most-watched English news outlets, known for Goswami's combative prime-time debate format. Academic studies of its debate programming between 2019 and 2020 found that over 60% of segments favored the BJP government, with opposition voices underrepresented and frequently framed negatively. The outlet has also faced accusations of broadcasting Islamophobic content and aligning its editorial line with Hindu-majoritarian Hindutva ideology. In 2020 it was accused by Mumbai Police of participation in a television ratings (TRP) manipulation scheme; however, the Enforcement Directorate's chargesheet found no evidence against Republic TV, and a Mumbai court subsequently ordered all related cases against the channel withdrawn. Media Bias/Fact Check rates it 'Right-Center' with a 'Questionable' credibility mark based on poor sourcing and multiple failed fact checks.
