Retail Dive
U.S. B2B trade media, industry-focused
Background
Retail Dive was launched in 2012 as part of Industry Dive, a Washington, D.C.-based B2B media company founded by Sean Griffey, Eli Dickinson, and Ryan Willumson — veterans of the trade publisher FierceMarkets. Industry Dive built a portfolio of free, advertising-supported newsletters covering dozens of sectors, with Retail Dive among its flagship titles. In 2019, Charlotte-based private equity firm Falfurrias Capital Partners acquired a majority stake, providing capital that funded five acquisitions and accelerated growth toward roughly $80–100 million in annual revenue. In September 2022, Informa plc, a publicly traded UK publishing and events giant, bought Industry Dive from Falfurrias for approximately $525 million. In December 2024, Informa merged its digital business units — including Industry Dive — with the U.S.-listed company TechTarget, creating Informa TechTarget, now traded on Nasdaq. Throughout these ownership changes, Retail Dive maintained a journalism-first, no-paywall model focused on retail industry professionals. Media Bias/Fact Check rates it as least biased and high in factual reporting, consistent with its reputation as a straightforward trade news source with minimal editorial opinion.
