Background

Compagnie de Saint-Gobain was founded in France in 1665 under a royal charter from King Louis XIV to manufacture glass for the Palace of Versailles. Over more than three centuries, it evolved from a glassmaker into a global supplier of construction and high-performance materials, eventually becoming a constituent of France's benchmark CAC 40 stock index. The North American presence took formal shape in 1959 with the establishment of American Saint-Gobain. In 1976, Saint-Gobain acquired a controlling stake in CertainTeed Corporation, a major U.S. building products brand, deepening its foothold in the region. The company's North American headquarters is located on a 65-acre campus in Malvern, Pennsylvania, which it renovated and opened as a showcase facility around its 350th anniversary in 2015. Saint-Gobain North America now operates more than 250 locations across the continent with roughly 15,000 employees. Its press releases are standard corporate public relations output issued by an in-house communications team; they do not constitute an independent editorial or journalistic enterprise and reflect the company's business and reputational interests rather than any political viewpoint.
