The Sofia Globe
Bulgarian independent English-language news, centrist/pro-EU
Background
The Sofia Globe is published by Sofia Globe Media Ltd and has been led by Clive Leviev-Sawyer since about 2012. He previously worked at the English-language weekly The Sofia Echo and in the Independent Newspapers parliamentary bureau in South Africa. The site reports in English on Bulgarian politics, corruption, courts, business, the EU and the Balkans, and it is aimed at foreigners, diplomats, investors and Bulgarians who read English. Leviev-Sawyer has written about Bulgarian media concentration. He wrote the book 'Bulgaria: Politics and Protests in the 21st Century' (2015) and co-wrote 'Bulgarian Jews: Living History' (2018). The site's coverage generally takes a pro-EU, rule-of-law and anti-corruption stance, which is typical of Bulgaria's Western-oriented independent press. Much of its content is news-wire style reporting of official statements and developments. I could not find detailed public disclosure of its funding or any major documented controversies. U.S. politics appears mostly as it relates to Bulgaria, NATO, Ukraine and European security, and I could not review a recent body of Trump-related coverage. The 'mostly neutral' stance is therefore a cautious judgment based on limited evidence.
