U.S. center-right historically; now a mainstream regional daily with a mixed editorial voice
The Spokesman-Review is the main daily newspaper of Spokane and the Inland Northwest. It was long owned by the Cowles family and is shifting to nonprofit ownership under Comma. Its news coverage of the second Trump administration appears largely straightforward and wire-based, and its opinion pages carry a range of views. Its editorial leanings are less defined since it dropped unsigned editorials and endorsements in 2020.
Owned byOwned for over a century by the Cowles family's Cowles Company (Spokane, Washington). The family agreed in 2025 to donate it to Comma Community Journalism Lab, a Spokane 501(c)(3) nonprofit. As of mid-2026 that transfer was under way but not complete. It was delayed by several weeks after the August 2026 leave of Executive Editor Rob Curley, who co-founded Comma. I could not confirm that it has closed since.
