Sportico
U.S. center, sports-business focused
Background
Sportico was announced on April 2, 2020, and officially launched on June 30, 2020, as a dedicated sports-business platform within Penske Media Corporation. It was co-founded by Scott Soshnick, who spent 27 years covering sports business at Bloomberg News, and Dick Glover, a veteran sports-and-entertainment executive with prior roles at ESPN, NASCAR, and ABC. PMC positioned the outlet to fill the space vacated when Bloomberg scaled back its sports business unit, and Sportico recruited several of Soshnick's former Bloomberg colleagues at launch. In December 2020, it acquired The Intercollegiate, a college sports media outlet, expanding its collegiate coverage. The outlet publishes proprietary valuations of sports franchises, which are widely cited by financial media, giving it influence similar to the Forbes franchise lists in that niche. PMC itself has grown significantly since Sportico launched — by June 2026, it had acquired all remaining Vox Media brands, including The Verge, making PMC one of the largest private digital media companies in the United States. Sportico has not been involved in notable editorial controversies; its identity is analytical and trade-focused rather than opinion-driven, and it does not publish a traditional op-ed section.
