TheStreet / Yahoo Finance
U.S. right-center (TheStreet) / U.S. center (Yahoo Finance) — both business and markets-focused
Background
TheStreet was founded in 1996 by hedge fund manager Jim Cramer and academic Martin Peretz as one of the internet's first dedicated financial news sites. It went public in 1999 at the height of the dot-com bubble, briefly reaching a market cap near $1.7 billion, then declined sharply as the bubble burst. Digital media company Maven acquired TheStreet in 2019 for $16.5 million; Maven later rebranded as The Arena Group, which also owns Parade, Men's Journal, and Sports Illustrated. The Arena Group posted its first full-year profit in 2025 and launched a quarterly TheStreet print magazine distributed through Walmart, Target, and other retailers. Media Bias/Fact Check rates TheStreet right-center, citing its pro-free-market framing and Jim Cramer's historically favorable commentary on Trump's stock market record. Yahoo Finance launched in 1997 as a free data portal under Yahoo's internet umbrella, aiming to give ordinary investors access to stock quotes and corporate news previously limited to professionals. Verizon acquired Yahoo in 2017 and sold its media properties — including Yahoo Finance — to Apollo Global Management for roughly $5 billion in 2021. Under Apollo, Yahoo Finance expanded aggressively into cryptocurrency coverage and, in early 2026, began integrating prediction-market data from Polymarket. Multiple bias-review organizations, including AllSides and Biasly, rate Yahoo Finance as centrist in its political coverage.
