Background

Timothy Sykes was born in 1981 in Orange, Connecticut, and attended Tulane University, where he reportedly grew a $12,415 bar mitzvah gift into roughly $1.65 million through day trading. After graduating in 2003 with a degree in philosophy, he launched Cilantro Fund Management, a small-cap short-bias hedge fund; the fund raised modest capital but closed after several years of heavy losses. Sykes then pivoted to financial education, launching timothysykes.com and later forming Millionaire Media LLC to sell subscription packages built around his penny-stock trading methods. By 2015, Forbes reported he was earning up to $20 million annually from those subscriptions. In 2011 he co-founded Profit.ly, a trade-tracking social platform. The business has faced legal disputes, including a 2020 lawsuit by Scanz Technologies alleging that Sykes copied the EquityFeed trading platform to build StocksToTrade (settled in 2021), and a 2025 federal class-action alleging illegal text-message marketing under the TCPA (also settled). The site publishes stock-market news articles and blog posts that are explicitly tied to Sykes's short-term trading methodology, giving it the character of a branded financial-media property rather than an independent journalism outlet.
