TipRanks
Financial data aggregator, not a political outlet
Background
TipRanks was founded in 2012 in Tel Aviv by Uri Gruenbaum (CEO) and Gilad Gat (CTO), with input from Cornell finance professor Roni Michaely. Its core product, the 'Financial Accountability Engine,' scans SEC filings, analyst notes, and news to score and rank the historical accuracy of Wall Street analysts, bloggers, and financial experts, feeding into tools like its proprietary 'Smart Score' for individual stocks. The platform won Best of Show awards at Finovate conferences in 2013 and built partnerships with major brokerages and banks, including TD Ameritrade, E*TRADE, and Nasdaq (joining Nasdaq Data Link in 2022 as an alternative-data supplier). Early backers included Oryzn Capital and OurCrowd, and Prytek — an Israeli holding company — was an early investor before leading a $77 million funding round in 2021. In 2024, Prytek acquired a further stake from founders, employees, and other investors, becoming TipRanks' controlling shareholder with about an 80% stake, at a reported company valuation near $200 million. TipRanks' output is overwhelmingly data-driven investment research and market-news aggregation rather than opinion journalism, so it is best characterized as a financial-services and fintech platform rather than a partisan or ideological news source.
