Trading Economics
global economic data aggregator, no political orientation
Background
Trading Economics was founded in 2008 in New York City by Antonio J. Fernandes Sousa, an economist and former chief strategist at a large financial trading firm, and Anna Fedec, an economist and international relations specialist who serves as editor-in-chief. The site launched as a free-to-access aggregator of macroeconomic data, drawing on official government and central-bank releases from 196 countries. It has remained self-funded throughout its existence, generating revenue through paid subscriptions and API licensing rather than advertising or investor capital. The platform expanded over time to cover more than 20 million economic indicators as well as live market quotes for currencies, equities, bonds, and commodities. It maintains offices in New York and Lisbon and has grown to roughly 78 employees with an estimated annual revenue around $10 million. Because it focuses almost entirely on presenting data rather than publishing opinion or analysis, it has attracted little controversy and is rated 'Least Biased' with 'High' factual reporting by Media Bias/Fact Check. It is better classified as a financial-data service than a traditional news outlet.
