Background
USAGOLD traces its roots to 1973, when gold expert and author Michael J. Kosares founded Centennial Precious Metals in Denver, Colorado — shortly after the U.S. formally abandoned the Bretton Woods gold standard and private gold ownership was legalized again for Americans. The company rebranded online as USAGOLD in the late 1990s, becoming one of the earliest precious metals dealers to build a substantial web presence.
