The Washington Stand
U.S. religious right
Background
Family Research Council launched The Washington Stand on June 1, 2022, as a digital outlet to complement its existing broadcast program, Washington Watch with Tony Perkins. FRC itself was founded in 1983 and has long operated as one of the most prominent evangelical policy and lobbying organizations in Washington, opposing abortion and LGBTQ rights and promoting a socially conservative, biblical-worldview agenda. The Southern Poverty Law Center has designated FRC an anti-LGBTQ hate group, a label FRC strongly disputes as a politically motivated attack on conservative viewpoints. Media Bias/Fact Check rates The Washington Stand as having an extreme-right bias and low factual reporting, citing poor sourcing, promotion of unproven claims, and a lack of funding transparency, while AllSides rates it simply as 'Right.' The outlet mixes original reporting with overt advocacy commentary and does not present itself as an independent, nonpartisan news organization; its content closely tracks FRC's institutional positions on abortion, marriage, gender identity, and religious-liberty issues.
