The Wilson Times
U.S. local news, center-right editorial page (small-town North Carolina)
Background
The paper's roots go back to Zion's Landmark, a Primitive Baptist newspaper founded in 1867. The Wilson Times itself was founded in 1896 as a weekly, and it began daily publication in 1902 as the Wilson Daily Times. The Dickerman family has owned it for five generations. In 2017 it moved from a 1983 suburban office building back to downtown Wilson. In 2019 Morgan Dickerman formed Restoration Newsmedia with the owners of The Daily Record in Dunn, as a way to help community papers handle industry economic pressures. Restoration later bought other papers, including the Wake Weekly papers. The Wilson Times now publishes twice a week with a circulation of roughly 10,800, and Corey Friedman is editor. Its news pages focus on Wilson County government, schools, crime, business and deed transfers. I did not find notable scandals or major editorial controversies, and I could not verify a detailed record on its coverage of the Trump administration. The profile of its orientation is therefore based on its ownership type and local focus, not on a review of recent national-politics coverage. Its self-presentation as a community newspaper serving local residents fits its content.
