A News
Turkish pro-government (Erdoğan-aligned), privately owned
Background
Turkuvaz Media Group launched A News in April 2017 as its first English-language TV station. It was meant to present Turkey, the region and world news to an international audience. It sits alongside the group's Turkish-language channels (ATV and A Haber) and its newspapers Sabah and Daily Sabah. Turkuvaz was long led by figures close to Erdoğan's family. It is now owned by Kalyon Group, whose government ties are the reason Turkish and international press-freedom groups place the group in the 'pool media' that tends to back the ruling AKP. Its English-language reporting typically reflects the Turkish government's foreign-policy positions and gives little room to opposition criticism. The wider Turkish media environment is tightly constrained. In October 2026 the government seized the opposition-aligned Halk TV through a court-appointed administrator, which Human Rights Watch criticized. Readers should treat A News as a window into the Turkish government's official perspective rather than an independent or neutral source. This profile is based on ownership records and general reporting on Turkuvaz. It is not based on a systematic review of A News's recent output.
