Africanews

pan-African, left-center

Africanews is a pan-African, English- and French-language news channel launched in 2016 as a wholly owned subsidiary of the European broadcaster Euronews. Its editorial focus is on sub-Saharan Africa, and media analysts rate it as left-center in story selection. Because its coverage centers on the African continent rather than U.S. domestic politics, its posture toward the Trump administration is mostly neutral, with straightforward reporting on U.S.-Africa policy impacts such as aid cuts and trade shifts.

Owned by100% subsidiary of Euronews S.A., which is majority-owned by Alpac Capital, a Lisbon-based Portuguese investment fund managed by Pedro Vargas David and Luís Santos. Alpac acquired the controlling stake from Egyptian billionaire Naguib Sawiris's holding company Media Globe Networks in July 2022.
