Caixin
Chinese business-oriented, semi-independent within CCP constraints
Caixin is a Beijing-based financial and business news group founded in 2009 by veteran journalist Hu Shuli, backed by a mix of private tech investors and government-linked funds. It operates with more editorial independence than China's state-run outlets but remains subject to Communist Party oversight and censorship pressure. Its coverage of the Trump administration focuses primarily on US–China trade and economic implications for China, with a reporting rather than advocacy tone.
Owned byCaixin Media Company, founded by editor-in-chief Hu Shuli. Major investors include China Media Capital (CMC), a government-backed investment fund with China Development Bank among its founding partners, and Tencent Holdings. Ant Group has also invested. Zhejiang Daily Press Group, a state-owned newspaper company, was an early backer before selling its 40% stake to CMC in 2013.
