Carolina Journal is the news publication of the John Locke Foundation, a conservative/libertarian think tank in North Carolina founded and largely bankrolled by Republican megadonor Art Pope. Its reporting and commentary consistently favor free-market, limited-government, and socially conservative positions on state issues. On national coverage of the Trump administration, it runs straight news (including horse-race polling) alongside commentary that is generally sympathetic to Republican and administration priorities, while still reporting critical polling data (e.g., on economic approval) when it comes from its own surveys.
