Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression

FIRE is a nonprofit legal advocacy organization funded heavily by conservative and libertarian foundations. It takes free-speech cases across the political spectrum but draws disproportionate support from the right side of the donor landscape. Since the Trump administration's second term began in 2025, FIRE has been broadly critical, documenting a record surge in government-driven attempts to suppress campus speech and publicly opposing administration pressure on universities.
