Myrtle Beach News
U.S. local/regional daily, center to center-left editorial tradition (news pages largely straight-reporting)
The paper once called the Myrtle Beach News is now The Sun News, a local daily owned by McClatchy, which Chatham Asset Management controls. Its focus is local Grand Strand news such as tourism, development, weather and local government, and its tone is mainstream and straight-reporting. Its coverage of the Trump administration is mostly neutral, and national stories tend to come from wire services or McClatchy's other papers. I did not review a recent sample of its editorials or news coverage, so that stance is an assessment based on its ownership and local focus.
Owned byMcClatchy Media Company, a subsidiary of Chatham Asset Management, a New Jersey hedge fund that took control of McClatchy in its 2020 bankruptcy sale. McClatchy merged with A360media in 2024.
