Social Security Administration

The Social Security Administration (SSA) is an independent U.S. federal agency that administers Social Security retirement, disability, and survivor benefits for roughly 71 million beneficiaries. Its Commissioner is appointed by the president, and under Trump's second term the agency has been led since May 2025 by Frank Bisignano, a former financial-technology executive aligned with administration priorities.
