The Student Press Law Center is an independent nonprofit based in Washington, D.C., that provides free legal assistance, training, and resources to student journalists at the high school and college level. It is the only U.S. organization dedicated solely to defending student press freedom under the First Amendment. Since the start of the Trump administration's second term in January 2025, the SPLC has documented a surge in threats to student journalists and has been openly critical of policies it sees as chilling press freedom on campuses.
